MATH
IXL
We use this program in school and at home to practice topics from prior and current units. After students have completed the "Diagnostic Arena", the IXL program will make customized recommendations of activities to target needed skills. Students use their IXL usernname@lexingtonps and their PERSONAL google password to LOG-IN .
Multiplication.com
Go to the LEARN tab for memory strategy stories and an extensive list of progressive learning options. Also use the GAMES tab for practice of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts.
Math-Play
Great for practicing those multiplication and division facts with timed activities to encourage memorization.
Khan Academy - Grade 4
Practice a variety of 4th grade math topics. Video tutorials are clean and clear, focusing on the math and not the presenter. The website is heavy on text and not as child oriented as others, and thus may require parent support to begin navigating. The content is targeted to each grade, so I have linked to grade 4.
Math is Fun
The name says it all! Click on your activity choice on the park map.
(Note: Ignore the banner near the top of the page is an advertisement for IXL.)

POSITIVE MINDSET for MATH
YouCubed
Having a growth mindset is important in all aspects of life. For Math, we are doing explicit instruction in the principles, habits and benefits of having a growth mindset. Much of the material we use is inspired by the research and lessons found here on Professor Jo Boaler's website.
Math Anxiety
How to avoid passing your own anxieties to your child. The strategies and reminders can really be applied to all subject areas. We don't want students to pick up negative messages about their potential or own past experiences. Likewise, as adults, we need to be mindful not to assume students will find certain academic areas "easy" just because we did.
Math Talk
Encouragement to weave math into your everyday conversations. After all, math is everywhere!!
BOOKS
A Mighty Girl
Looking for book, game or movie recommendations that present admirable, strong girls? This website is an amazing resource for much more than just books. Boys, you will see many favorite books and movies here too!
Scholastic Book Wizard
Wondering what the grade level range is for a book? Look it up on this website to get an approximation of the target audience. Of course, all readers are different and not all 4th graders are reading the same difficulty of books. Please still check if a book is "just right" by reading a full page. If there are 5 or more words misread or causing struggle on a single page, then the book is too difficult.
Scholastic Book Orders
You can order books online directly through the Scholastic website. Our classroom code is HGZJR. We also distribute paper Scholastic catalogues in class. Orders close on the 30th of each month and are shipped to the school usually in the 7-10 business days. I will distribute books that arrive.
Read Aloud
This website explains the importance of read aloud for our older students who are readers.
