All celebrations, per Lexington Public Schools' Wellness policy, are food free.
Birthdays
The student celebrating a birthday can choose to celebrate with the class for 15 minutes. It's their "15 minutes of fame" so to speak. The student needs to take the initiative to come to me to let me know what they have chosen for an activity and I will find the right time in schedule. The choice must be an activity the entire class can enjoy together to build community. (15 minutes of unstructured recess is not an option, while a whole class outdoor game works!) Some ideas:
• Charades
• Dr. Tangle or other group challenge games
• Simon Says
• 7-Up
• Read a favorite book to the class
• Create a puzzle for classmates to solve (I'll copy)
• 4 Directions (4 Corners)
• Have everyone sign a T-shirt with fabric pens
• Bring a favorite game from home we can all play
Book Character Celebration
Bowman began a new tradition in November 2015 with the launch of the Book Character Day. On a Thursday in November, we parade in book character costume, build community with a whole school assembly, and stay in character for classroom activities.
Winter (Mid-Year)
Our Room Parents will coordinate an assortment of creative classroom activities, to be held during the school day, on a day near the end of December.
Valentines Day
Students can bring Valentines to school to distribute to their classmates. No candy is allowed. Ideas include handmade, computer printed or store bought valentines. Please choose to send to all or none of the class. I will provide a list of student names in early February.
End-of-Year Celebration of Learning
Parents will be invited to a showcase of our learning. (This is typically a Friday morning in Spring. t.b.d.)
